Castlewellan
had to battle
13 August 2007
The meeting of Castlewellan and An
Riocht in the Down SFC at rain lashed
Newcastle on Saturday evening 11th August
proved a very exciting affair with the
Castlewellan side coming through for
a quarter-final place on a scoreline
of 1-15 to 1-10.
The winners dominated the opening half
with Greogory McCartan and his midfield
partner Fintan McGreevy being in top
form, and the town side were well in
command at the break leading by 1-10
to 0-3, with Finbarr Rice scoring Castlewellans
goal, while McCartan fired over two
points. An Riocht staged a great second-half
rally but they gave themselves too much
to do. Aidan Flanagan's goal gave An
Riocht hope.
John Clarke scored two points after
half-time and with Paddy Cole also notched
three points, as Castlewellan's lead
dwindled. But with Fintan McGreevy finishing
with three points and Cathal Crilly
contributing four scores, Castlewellan
held on to win.

Rice 1-1. C. Crilly 0-4, F. McGreevy
