Opening round SFC win for Loughinisland

Loughinisland booked their place in the quarter-final of the Down SFC when they defeated a determined Newry Shamrocks side on a scoreline of 0-9 to 0-6 at the Newcastle venue on Saturday, 11th of August.

The game was played in wet conditions which proved trying for the players throughout. At the break Loughinisland were ahead by a point.

They continued to press advantage in the third quarter and looked to be home and dry before a late Newry Shamrocks rally made the sweat in the dying minutes before they came through by three points 0-9 to 0-6.

Scorers for Loughinisland were – R. Stranney 0-4, D. Gordon, C. Fitzpatrick, S. O’Hare, B. O’Reilly and N. McCarthy 0-1 apiece.

Newry Shamrocks scorers were – P. Burns 0-2, C. Coffey 0-2, R. Cunningham and E. McGuinness 0-1 apiece.
