Down GAA Coaching and Games committee launched
the GAA Fun Do Learning Resource pack last
Tuesday night in Leitrim Fontenoy’s
Clubrooms.
The Fun Do Learning Resource Pack is an integrated
series of resources incorporating booklets,
DVDs and DVD-ROMs which support parents, teachers
and coaches of participants in the Fun Do
stage. The Fun Do stage is the recreational
stage of the programme, where initiatives
are designed to ensure that all participants
experience fun and fair play from their involvement
in Gaelic games which will underpin a lifelong
involvement with the Association. The Fun
Do Learning Resource Pack is designed to assist
in creating the environment whereby children
can ‘Play and Stay with the GAA’.
At the launch Eamonn O Hare, (Coaching and
Games Development Officer) stated “This
pack is a tremendous resource for all coaches,
from those just beginning a coaching career
to those who are well established in the coaching
world. There is a wealth of ideas for games,
combinations of games and skill development
exercises for the coach to choose from and
create coaching sessions to build up their
own personal library of sessions.”
Eamonn highlighted the importance of having
our coaches suitably skilled in their coaching
practice. Children should be coached to the
highest possible standards and the coach education
programme in Down is designed to meet the
needs of our coaches.
The presentation was delivered by Paddy Hardy
(Cumann na mbuinscoil) and John Morgan (Football
Development Manager). Paddy and John highlighted
some of the features of the pack using videos,
animations and session preparation templates.
The Fun Do Learning Resource Pack contains
booklets, DVDs and DVD-ROMs aimed at parents,
teachers and coaches. The pack is for both
football and hurling, and is very coach friendly,
easy to follow, and most important it is presented
in a form which meets the coaches needs for
working with children from the age of 6 up.
Packs are available to Clubs and Schools
through the County Office in Castlewellan.
