Six South Down GAA clubs shared the
honours at the South Down Scór
finals in Mayobridge on Sunday night
last.
In Ceili Dancing, Warrenpoint were
winners with Glassdrumman in second
place. In Solo Singing, Carrie
Kennedy of Glenn, making a welcome
return to Scór after a ten-year gap,
won with her song, ‘The Flower of
Magherally-o’ with Vivienne
Murphy of Clonduff, who travelled
from Cork to take part in second
place.
The Mayobridge Instrumental group
were the only competitions in their
section and retained their South
Down title, having won it for the
past three years, and in Recitation
it was a ‘double’ for Clonduff,
taking first and second place,
Eileen McCusker represented the
Camogie club with her poem ‘The
Mammy’ with Sean Downey from the
Football club in second place with ‘Mary
Jane’.
Glassdrumman won the Ballad Groups
with Mayobridge second and in
Novelty Act, Rostrevor retained
their South Down title with Clonduff
runners-up. The Sets were won by
Warrenpoint with Clonduff ladies in
second place, and in a very exciting
Quiz final, Mayobridge drew in front
in the last round of questions to
put Clonduff into second place.
William James Smyth, the new South
Down chairman presented medals to
winners and runners-up and the
‘Gerry Fitzmaurice trophy’, the
oldest Scór trophy in Ireland, to
Mayobridge the winners of the quiz.
East Down &
County Final
The East Down final will be held
next Sunday night, 18th
February in Dundrum with a 7.00pm
start and the County Final will be
held in Saval Sports and Leisure
Complex on 25th February,
also with a 7.00pm start.
