Clonduff made history on Sunday by winning the Down Senior Camogie Championship for the first time, against Portaferry at St Malachy’s GAC Castlewellan.

The game commenced with Portaferry’s Fiona Duff scoring the first point of the game and this was quickly followed by another from Deidre Savage. Clonduff’s first point came from a free which was taken by Fionnaula Carr. Clonduff’s sisters Karen and Paula Gribben scored a further 2 points. Portaferry’s Deidre Savage was not be out done and scored a goal against Clonduff on 17th min.

The game at this stage saw excellent performances by both teams. It was on the 27th minute that Sara Louise Carr took Clonduff into the lead by hitting the ball hard into the back of the net and her sister Fionnaula secured this by scoring the final point of this exciting first half.

The second half of the game was opened by Fionnaula Carr scoring the first point. Portaferry was awarded a free and scored a point. Then the girls form Clonduff just took off and scored again and again. Making use of every opportunity that was awarded to them. A cheeky goal from Kitty Fagan secured Clonduff's lead for the remainder of the game. A late goal from Maria McNally on 47th min was not enough to lift the spirit of the Portaferry side. This half of the game simply belonged to Clonduff who scored continuously.

Both Clubs played outstandingly with Portaferry’s Leonie McNamara having a tremendous game.
