Derry retain Ulster title - Derry 0-10
Down 1-6
Derry showed their resolve by
retaining their Ulster Junior title,
their 12th in all, on Sunday in front
of a strong Down contingent in Newry,
before the Down-Monaghan Ulster
Football Championship tie.
Derry didn’t make this easy for
themselves and may (or may not) take
some comfort from the fact that they
won this match without playing at
their best.
Down,
however, also had their part to play
in frustrating the Derry play at
either end of the park and making good
use of any opportunities presented to
them. The Down goal late in the second
half seemed to shock Derry into action
and they responded accordingly with a
fine point from Aisling Diamond and a
pressure free converted by Katie
McAuley to secure the win.
