The
Comhairle Uladh Provincial M.D.
Donnelly Póc Fada final was held on
Thursday 21 June 2007 at Carn Togher
in the Sperrins, close to the
Slaughtneil club in Derry.
This was the second time that this
event was held over a mountainous
course and indeed Carn Togher proved
to be an excellent venue. The event
was also expanded to include two
additional categories, Under 16 and
an Over 40 Veterans event.
In
total there were 19 competitors and
the challenge produced three
excellent winners, who will now
represent Ulster in the National Póc
Fada, which will take place in the
Cooley Mountains in Co Louth in
August.
Down's Graham Clarke was impressive
as he won back to back Ulster titles
over this course with a score of 43
pucks. In second place was Jason Mc
Manus from Fermanagh with 47 pucks.
The Under 16 competition proved to
be a tough assignment for the young
participants, who struggled with the
conditions throughout.
Michael Devlin from Antrim won this
event with 47 pucks with Donegal's
Michael Magee coming in as runner-up
with 56 pucks. The Veterans
event was dominated by by Down and
in particular Bredagh. Bredagh
Goalkeeper and BBC Presenter Mark
Sidebottom (55) was edged into
second place by former Antrim player
and current Bredagh full forward Ali
Mc Allister (54) who won by a single
puck.
Comhairle
Uladh PRO, Michael Hasson, was on
hand to give the competitors his
support throughout the event and to
present the trophies at the
conclusion of what was a very
successful event.
