Down are
through to the Ulster Senior
Championship. They got there by
defeating Cavan on 27 April in
Breffin Park, score Down 3-11
Cavan 0-02. The score appears to state
that the game was a one sided affair but
the Cavan team is relatively young and
still developing. Downs top scorers that
day were Clonduff’s Sara-Louise Carr and
Laitroim’s Mairin McAleenan.
Sunday
will be a big day for the Carr family,
with Ross Carr managing the Senior
Football Team and his two daughters
Fionnaula and Sara-Louise playing in the
curtain raiser before the Down Seniors
Football match.
This
match will be very interesting to watch
as both sides have met before in the
National Junior League with the Mourne
ladies beating the Oakleaf ladies by 4
points and that game was extremely hard
and physical. With the top scorer for
Down that day being Catherine McGourty.
This is
Jerome McCrickard’s first year in
management. Jerome has already got the
team through to the finals of the
National Junior League, although the
Mourne Ladies were unsuccessful that day
against Waterford. Jerome is currently
being supported by Maureen O’Higgins
(Down County Chairperson Camogie) and
Liam McGreevy former Loughinisland
Manager.
As part
of Integration, the two codes as in
Camogie and Football will be played on
the one day. This is a great opportunity
for Camogie as this game will help to
raise Camogies profile, with a lot of
skill and talent from both teams on
display, as the Derry team will include
St Marys Magherafelt All Ireland College
Winners. |
