Seven Wins for County Down GAA Clubs at Ulster Scor Semi-Final

Five County Down clubs shared seven out of eight wins at this year's first Senior Scor semi-final in Castlewellan on Saturday night last, where our club representatives we took on the winners from Derry and Antrim for places in the Ulster final which will be held in Swatragh on 31st March.

Pride of place goes to the Clonduff club, which won three competitions, Recitation with Eileen McCusker, Novelty Act and Quiz. Kerrie Kennedy singing 'The Flower of Magherally O' won an Ulster final spot for the Glenn John Martins club; Mayobridge in Instrumental Music, Carryduff in Ballad Groups and Warrenpoint in Set Dancing make up the rest of the Down winners.

The only County Down competitors to lose out were the Saul Ceili Dancers; their competition being won by the Watty Graham's Club from Maghera in Derry

Like the County Final in Saval a week earlier, patrons were treated to three and a half hours of great entertainment.  Another feature of the night's activities was that once the Instrumental Music competition ended, members of the three clubs involved, Mayobridge, Bellaghy and Carey Faughs engaged in a two hour long traditional music session in the senior common room of the school, only breaking up as the results were announced.

Results:

Ceili Dance:      Watty Graham’s County Derry

Solo Singing:     Kerrie Kennedy Glen

Instrumental Music: Mayobridge

Recitation: Eileen McCusker Clonduff

Ballad Group: Carryduff

Novelty Acts:   Clonduff

Set Dancing:     Warrenpoint

Quiz: Clonduff.

Gareth McGreevy from Saul was a very efficient Fear a Ti.
