Saval GAA
complex was the venue on Sunday
last, when once again, Clonduff
GAA turned out to be the top Scór
Club in County Down in what was
one of the most entertaining, most
enjoyable Down Scór finals for
years.
From the moment
the first dancers took the stage
in the Ceili Dancing competition
until the conclusion when
Clonduff’s Quiz team with super
sub Mary McGreevy on board took
the honours in the Question Time
competition, it was non stop
entertainment all the way, and for
good measure, Claire Rooney,
Down’s new All-Ireland winner
reprised her winning recitation,
‘Sam’s Prayer’ for a very
appreciative audience at the end.
A complete set
of new trophies had been presented
to the Scór committee for the
occasion and the trophy donors
very kindly agreed to make the
presentations to the various
winners:
The results:
Ceili
Dancing: Saul
Solo Singing: Kerrie Kennedy
Glenn John Martins
Instrumental Music: Mayobridge
Recitation: Eileen McCusker
Clonduff
Ballad Groups: Carryduff
Novelty Act: Clonduff
Set Dancing: Warrenpoint
Quiz: Clonduff.
At the
conclusion, after Claire Rooney’s
performance, her mother Thérèse
who wrote the award winning
recitation was presented with a
bouquet of flowers by Scór
secretary Paula Magee in
recognition of her input into
Claire’s success.
The Saval club
is to be congratulated on the
wholehearted effort they put into
staging Scór and with Bean a Ti
Anne Lennon in charge, the show
ran smoothly and sweetly from the
word ‘go’.
The Ulster
semi-final will be held this
Saturday night in St Malachy’s
School Castlewellan when the
County Down winners take on the
winners from Derry and Antrim.
Doors open at 6.00pm with a
planned 7.00pm start time, and a
capacity audience is expected.
