Rugby Great Anderson is special guest at Club Down Banquet
The 5th Annual Club Down Sports Banquet in
the Slieve Donard Hotel, Newcastle on Friday
16th November will feature former Irish international
rugby star Willie Anderson. Capped 27 times
for Ireland between 1984 and 1990 (including
4 World Cup appearances in 1987), Willie has
gone on to coach with Leinster, Ireland and
Scotland, as well as former club Dungannon and
currently with AIL team Rainey Old Boys.
A towering lock forward with a massive on-field
presence, he is probably best known outside
of rugby circles as the man who once swiped
the Argentine flag while on tour in South America,
and as a result enjoyed 120 days of unplanned
holidays as the guest of the Buenos Aires military
junta!
An eventual career at the very top of sporting
excellent provides the ever popular Willie with
a host of interesting stories and he will be
a novel addition to the banquet which also features
music from Bonaparte’s Retreat and recent
All-Ireland Scor winner Kerrie Kennedy.
