Down Vocational Schools Finals - Pairc Esler, Newry, Wednesday, 28th November 2007

The Down Vocational Schools Finals take place in Pairc Esler, Newry, this Wednesday, 28th November, and, for the first time ever, the U-14 and U-16 Football finals are played on the same day as a double- header.

Wednesday 28th November will see both the U14 and U16 Vocational Schools Finals played at Parc Elser in a double header for the first time in the competitions history. The U14 Final will be played at 11am St Columbans Kilkeel v St Malachys Castlewellan with Jackie Quinn (Saval Referee) and theU16 Final at 12.30pm St Malachys Castlewellan V De la Salle Downpatrick with Neil Cousins (An Riocht Referee)

The Holders of the U16 competition and All Ireland Champions St Columbans Kilkeel are out, they were beaten in the semi final by the U14 Champions and Ulster Finalist of 2 years ago St Malachy's by 2-10 to 2-04 and who probably enter the U16 final as slight favourites ahead of De La Salle who are managed by former Antrim Star Geroid Adams and who v been the surprise package this year having beaten 7 times All Ireland Champions St Marks Warrenpoint 2-07 to 1-09 in an exciting semi final.

The U14 Competition has a story of its own, the final between St Malachys and St Columbans Kilkeel produces a rare phenomenon in GAA.. 2 Brothers Cathal Rodgers of St Malachy s and Neil Rodgers of St Columbans will face each other in a county final in an extremely rare senario. Both schools met already in the league phase where St Columbans edged through 3-10 to 0-15 in what was a close encounter so wednesdays encounter should be no different.

Whatever happens on wednesday we will be promised 2 excellant games of Gaelic Football and whoever eventually goes through will represent Down with great pride in the forthcoming Ulster Series.
