Warrenpoint won three titles including Anna
Gonzales in solo Song
The upsurge in interest in Scór and
Scór na nÓg was very much in evidence
on Sunday night in Saval’s magnificent
Sports & Leisure Centre, as the GAA clubs
of County Down gathered to decide the winners
of this year’s Scór na nÓg
competitions.
Thanks to the hard work of the East and South
Down Scór committees, coupled with the
renewed interest in Scór in many more
clubs, and with the abundance of talent available,
it was not surprising that the turnout at Scór
competitions this year, would be like ‘the
good old days’.

winner, Kirsty McAleese
The packed houses and the
high standard of competition in both East and
South Down semi finals and finals this year
was an indication that we were in for a treat
with a record number of clubs taking part. In
one semi final alone, thirteen clubs faced the
judges with eleven of them in the quiz.
But of all these clubs who took part in the
early rounds in both divisions, just fifteen
of them were represented in the County final,
and with the Saval Centre packed to capacity
by six o’clock, we were assured of a good
night’s entertainment — and by the
end of the night, certainly not disappointed.

Solo Singing Warrenpoint (Anna Gonzales)
The standard was extremely
high in all the competitions and in very few
cases was there a unanimous decision from the
adjudicators.
By ten o’clock the results were in and
just five clubs shared the awards. Pride of
place went to Warrenpoint with three wins; Ceili
and set Dancing as well as Solo Singing.

Ballad Groups Saul
Castlewellan recaptured the
Instrumental Music title and won the Recitation
title, while Saul, Rostrevor and Loughinisland
won the Ballad Group, Novelty act and Quiz titles
respectively.
Special presentations were made at the interval
to Kerrie Kennedy from the Glen club who is
the Ulster Scór Sinsear Solo singing
champion and to Claire Rooney of Mayobridge
who won the All-Ireland Recitation title at
the Scór na nÓg national finals
in Athlone in February past.

Novelty Acts Rostrevor
Anne Lennon from the Saval Club was a very effective
and efficient Bean a Ti.
