Ladies: Down Ladies Club Championship Previews

The semi-finals of the Intermediate Championship are up for decision on Saturday evening. Hilltown will be the venue for the meeting of Kilcoo and Rostrevor. Both sides met last Saturday in a league encounter which the reds won easily but the championship is a different ball game and Kilcoo with one eye on this upcoming game may have held a little in reserve. Rostrevor as league leaders will certainly start as favourites but Kilcoo are wily old campaigners and I certainly wouldn’t rule out an upset come the long whistle in Clonduff Pairc. The other semi-final will see Bright and Carryduff meet in Downpatrick. Carryduff were the early league pacesetters and appeared untouchable at one point but recent results has seen them come up short. If they can re-discover their early league form and their forward line clicks then they are more than capable of holding their own. Bright on the other hand have had a very consistent league campaign and they will be looking forward to this tie with some relish. They are strong in the middle sector with a forward line capable of knocking up big scores given the opportunity. If their defence can hold tight then I would expect them to advance to the final with a little to spare.
League Round-up
Clonduff and Castlewellan are the only two contenders for honours in the Senior league. Clonduff with one extra game and the easier looking run in appear to hold the advantage and are therefore favourites for the title. In the Intermediate league, Rostrevor lead Bright by a point at the top with one game left to play. Ballymartin are steadily making ground and if they can win their games in hand they are capable of sneaking the title or forcing a play-off situation. In the Junior league Shamrocks have led from the start and unless there is a total collapse in their last 3 games they should romp home with a 100% league record. Aughlisnafin is the only challenger and are secure of the runner-up spot.
