Ulster Scór na nÓg: Hitting the right notes

by East Down Scór PRO, Gareth McGreevy

There was great excitment on Saturday night past, January 19th as 3 East Down GAA clubs set off with high expectations of bringing home some Ulster titles to County Down in the Scór na nÓg Ulster finals. The 3 clubs were Saul (Ballad Group), Loughinisland (Quiz team) and Castlewellan (Instrumental Music). Also representing Down would be Rostrevor (Novelty Act) and Warrenpoint (Set Dancing).

It was a great nights entertainment but the only club with success on the night was Castlewellan who played exceptionally on the night and swept the boards with 3 1sts. The East Down board wish to congratulate all Down competitors on getting as far as they did. Especially to the East Down teams of Loughinisland Quiz Team and Saul Ballad group who performed exceptionally well on the night. We hope they will all, and indeed all other Down acts, grace the same stage again next year.

A big hearty congratulations to Castlewellan Instrumental group made up of Emer Walsh, Orla and Niall McCrickard- lets hope they bring an All Ireland back to County Down.

Senior Scór is now fast approaching and the East Down Scór committee would remind clubs to get their entry forms sent in as soon as possible. The first round is on Friday 8th February in Teconnaught with the second preliminary round taking place in Dundrum on Sunday 10th February. The clubs will be assigned to each venue next week and are asked to attend the venue assigned to them. Let's hope some of our senior scór acts can get just as far as Castlewellan Instrumental Group!
