After a long winter of training and a hard
fought National League campaign, the Down
Ladies team have finally begun their countdown
to the Championship.
The
team play arch rivals Tyrone in the Ulster
Championship semi final on Sunday 15th June
in Saval GAC at 2.30pm. The team commenced
their lead in to the big game with a training
weekend in sun-drenched Armagh. On hand to
assist them with their preparation was Down
legend Mickey Linden, who spoke to the girls
about his experiences of big game preparations
from his All Ireland winning days in 1991
and 1994.
The team will look forward to playing in
Saval, where they played three of their four
National League games, winning every game
they played on the fantastic carpet-like surface.
While the team’s preparation has not
been ideal with some injuries in the camp,
the run in to the summer competition has definitely
begun and they will be looking forward to
recording a first historic win over the red
hand team on the 15th June.

The Down Ladies were also represented on
the Ulster panel at the Interprovincial tournament
in Athlone this weekend. Eliza Downey and
Michaela Downey played on the team as they
defeated Munster to lift the Interprovincial
title for the first time since 2002, and only
the third time the team have ever achieved
the feat. Congratulations go to both girls
who played a significant role in the win.
