Down assistant manager DJ Kane is confined to
the stand for Sunday’s Ulster SFC semi-final
against Down after his appeal against a six-month
suspension was upheld last night.
Kane appeared before the Central
Hearings Committee after the Central Competitions
Control Committee had proposed the ban after
the 1994 All-Ireland winning captain was deemed
to have contravened the terms of a previous
16-week ban during the drawn Ulster SFC quarter-final
against Tyrone in Omagh three weeks ago.
Kane could now take his case
to the Central Appeals Committee and, if that
fails, the Disputes Resolution Authority. Down
manager Ross Carr successfully appealed his
eight-week suspension to the DRA last week and
will be on sideline for Sunday’s big game
at Clones.
