Despite having six acts in the Ulster Scór
final in Silverbridge, Down clubs came back
empty handed from the South Armagh venue on
Saturday night.
With high hopes for an excuse
to head down to Killarney next month to support
one or more of our county representatives in
the All-Ireland, now Ulster’s hopes are
shared out between clubs from Tyrone, Armagh,
Derry, Cavan, Donegal and Derry.
The very high standard of competition
witnessed in the Down Scór was equalled
all through Ulster and despite losing out, the
County Down representatives in the final were
always in with a shout and couldn’t have
been far behind any of the competition winners.
So the Scór season ends
for another year, but before it ended, a very
enjoyable night of celebration, without the
pressure of competition, without adjudicators,
among friends who appreciate your efforts, where
you could do your stuff and never worry about
the odd mistake made the Scór Celebration
Night in Liatroim on Easter Tuesday the most
enjoyable so far since the ‘Scór
party night’ concept was inaugurated three
years ago.
Liatroim GAA Club was an ideal
venue for the wide representation of Scór
competitors and their friends from both East
Down and South Down GAA clubs, as well as welcome
visitors from Carrickcruppen GAC in County Armagh,
including Paddy Mee, former Armagh Scór
chairman. The night proved to be a non stop
variety show with instrumental music, song,
recitation, ballad groups, ceili and set dancing,
and three novelty acts, ending with mini ceili
with Phillip McGovern in charge and music by
Glenn Instrumental group.
County Scór chairman
Brian Kennedy thanked everyone who took part
in the night’s entertainment
and the Liatroim club for their hospitality
in hosting the event. He offered good wishes
to the four County Down clubs taking part in
the Ulster Scór final in Silverbridge.
