Down Ladies Prepare For Promotion Decider

The Down Ladies team take to the field on Sunday in one of the most important games the team have played in recent years. They face Clare in the Suzuki National League Division Two semi final. Victory will see the team promoted to Division One, a position they have never before reached. It would also see them compete to win a first divisional title in the final against either Donegal or Waterford live on TG4.

For captain Michaela Downey, Sunday’s game represents the culmination of six months hard work and is a game the team is very much looking forward to. On the challenge ahead, the captain commented “the semi final presents a number of opportunities for us. The biggest of these is the chance to play Division One football next year - playing against the best teams in the country is what we need to do to continually improve our play and to be sixty minutes away from that prize is a chance that we do not want to let out of our grasp. The work that the players and management have put in over the last six months has been tremendous and to reach a league final unbeaten in the competition would be a nice reward for their efforts.”

Down’s preparation for Sunday’s game received a welcome boost week with the announcement of a kitbag sponsorship deal with Bonny’s Caravan Park, Newcastle. They join the Down Ladies jersey sponsor ‘Around A Pound’ in supporting the team this year and the Down Ladies County Board would like to extend their thanks to both businesses for their support.

The Down Ladies game against Clare will be played at a half way venue, still to be announced. The Division Two Final will be played on 4th May.
