South Down Hurlers continued
their extensive training regime at the week
end with a session from Tipp’s Nicky English.
A double All Ireland winner as a player and
the manager of the last Tipp team to win an
All-Ireland his experience and knowledge of
the game is extensive.
He took the South Down team for a 90 minute
session at St Malachy’s School in Castlewellan
on Satuday. Emphasising skill and determination,
his training session was excellently delivered.
He treated the team like they were training
for the Laim McCarthy, and constantly encouraged
them to meet that standard. Commenting on the
high levels of skill on display, Nicky went
on to say what stood between the players and
success was a level of intensity displayed by
those with great self belief.
Their initial league defeat away to Monaghan
certainly lacked self belief, but if they take
on board this session their home match against
Cavan will be a different outcome.
