The week ahead sees the conclusion of the early
season hurling leagues which decide which teams
are promoted to Division 1 to play with the
three Ards teams. These qualifier series also
have also a bearing on this years Championship
draws so competition has been keen at both Under
16 and minor level to determine which two teams
qualifiy in each age group.
At minor level, the promotion playoffs will
take place on Monday 5 May when Group A winners
Bredagh take on Group B runners up Liatroim.
Both these teams have excellent forward lines
and a high scoring game is expected with little
between the teams. In the other playoff, Carryduff,
who narrowly won their group on scoring difference,
play host to Group A runners up Warrenpoint
in what promises to be a hard fought battle
for the other promotion spot.
The Under 16 competition has also been running
since March and at the end of the series, Bredagh
defeated Warrenpoint in the first playoff to
secure promotion to Division 1. The second promotion
place will be decided on Friday 2 May when the
combined strength of Castlewellan and Liatroim
- O Rahillys- take on Group B runners up Kilclief
at Castlewellan's Bann Road pitches.
