As you are probably aware the new GAA identity
was officially unveiled at Congress in Sligo
in April. This new identity will be an integral
part of the GAA’s new strategic plan.
Our new identity consists of an updated and
more modern version of both the GAA’s
crest and name. This crest, which reflects the
history and heritage of the Association, will
be reserved for certain member and administrative
activity from Clubs through to Central Council.
The GAA name, uniquely rendered as a core component
of the crest, will be used for our games and
activities from Go Games through to senior Leagues
and Championships.
Nearly 12 months have passed since the Brand
Review commenced and in that time we have conducted
research that has been informed by over 8,000
members and non-members. There is however still
much work to be done.
You will begin seeing our new identity in use
immediately as work has already begun on developing
guidelines and templates to inform and provide
direction on how the new GAA identity is to
be used. It is extremely important that these
guidelines and templates are followed if the
rollout is to be a success.
We plan to gradually phase in the new identity
over a 6 to 12 month period and we are on target
to achieve this.
Over the coming months you will begin to see
that it is not just a new logo that has been
created for the GAA but a complete identity
system that includes a visual toolkit including
colour, typography, photography and layout systems,
together with a range of initiatives that will
be developed and implemented.
Guidelines will be issued to you, to help you
on how to use the new identity in the correct
manner. It is important that you wait until
you have been issued with the new GAA identity
guidelines before using the new identity. In
the interim I would ask that you continue using
the artwork/logos you have used in recent years.
In the coming weeks we will be able to issue
Clubs with templates and guidelines for stationery
items, including letterhead. We will then begin
work on how the new identity can be used in
club signage and publications and would hope
to have these guidelines available for you to
use in July.
In the past there was little control over how
the Association and our games were being branded
and we are determined to regain this control.
To ensure the rollout of the new brand is done
within the guidelines to achieve the maximum
effect, we now have a Brand Team in place in
Croke Park. Rebecca Hocking and Noel Quinn can
assist with any queries you may have. They can
