To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the
GAA Scór competitions, clubs throughout
County Down are making an all-out effort
to make 2009 a year to remember.
Following last year’s renewed interest
in Scór, the South Down Scór
committee wisely decided to re-jig the format
and add an extra semi final so that as many
clubs as possible could be encouraged to
take part, and the wisdom of this decision
was evident at the first two heats in Hilltown
and Tullylish where there were a record
number of clubs and teams taking part.
There were eleven teams taking part in
Hilltown on Friday night last and then on
Sunday, no fewer than fourteen teams took
part in the Tullylish venue.
This Friday night there are at least thirteen
teams expected to take part in the Glasdrumman
venue including Glasdrumman, Longstone Football,
Attical Football, An Riocht, Clonduff Football,
Rostrevor Football, Mayobridge, Longstone
Camogie, Attical Camogie, Ballymartin, Newry
Shamrocks, Ballela, and Burren Ladies.
In the South Down semi-finals so far, the
winner in each goes forward to compete in
the South Down final in Saval Sports and
Leisure Centre on 9th November. The second
and third placed competitors will compete
in a Repêchage competition in Mayobridge
this Sunday evening, commencing 6.00pm,
where the winner in each competition will
join the three other semi final winners
in the South Down final.
