Ballycran minors defeated in Ulster Semi Finals - 18/11/02

Armagh side Keady Lamh Dhearg kept the Armagh winning ways going when they defeated Down Hurling minor champions Ballycran 2 - 11 to 2 - 05 in the Bodyline Leisure Complex Ulster Club Minor Hurling Championship semi final at Ballinascreen yesterday. Ballycran won the inaugural Ulster minor league title last week but they struggled to get into this game.

Ballycran started the brighter side scoring two points but the Armagh side soon took control of the game. By half time the Armagh side had shoot themselves into a 2 - 05 to 0 - 04 lead. The two goals coming from left corner forward Paul Breen. The first goal coming after seven minutes. Breen followed this up with a free. Two more points were added to the board for the Armagh side to put them four points in front of the Ards men. The second goal was a well work move from the Armagh defence to full forward Eugene McDonnell who sent a great cross to Breen, who turned his marker before burying it into the Ballycran net.

Keady kept up the pressure in the second half however as in the first half Ballycran started the brighter scoring a goal in the first minute. However Keady scored five points to go back into the driving seat. Kevin Enright scoring two, John O'Neill, and Eugene McDonnell scoring one each. Ballycran spent the last twenty minutes trying to score goals. Keady were more than capable of keeping them out. Ballycran eventually broke through for a goal on the 27th minute to bring them back to within four points.

However Enright and Breen finished the scoring to give the winners a more than comfortable victory than the scoreline suggests.
