Saffrons minors brush Down aside in closing stages in Ulster MHC First Round - 18/05/03

Ulster Minor Hurling Semi Final at Casement Park, Belfast - Sunday 18th May 2003

Antrim 4-12 Down 2-11

Antrims greater goal power was the difference between these two side at a rainy Casement yesterday. Antrm started the game at a high pace with half forward Paddy Cunningham getting two early scores. Down gave away alot of frees in the first half and Antrims Joe Scullion made them count on the board - scoring four frees in the first half. Antrims first goal came after 17 minutes but Down responded by sending the ball to the back of the net.

At half time the scores were 1-09 to 1-05 in Antrims favour.

Down opened the second period of play in stile scoreing four points to level the match with about twenty minutes remianing. Antrim lifted their game after this and scored their second goal. Both sides exchanged goals on the 50th and 53rd minute. Antrim added another goal in injury time to run out 4-12 to 2-11 winners.
