With no Under
16 games in the Ards section this week, the focus was on the mainland teams with
the league tables now beginning to take shape. In the East Down section,
Liatroim and Bredagh head the table following their away derby victories over
Castlewellan and Carryduff respectively. Liatroim won a high scoring game
against their near neighbours with impressive displays from Brian Owens and Paul
Mc Aleenan. Castlewellan put up a determined performance with Brian Mc Cann,
David Morgan, Aidan and Martin Keown starring for the town side. In the North
Down derby, played in atrocious, Bredagh always had the upper hand with Eoin
Costello and Mark Devlin in excellent form. For Carryduff, Darragh Goodwin,
Paddy Craig and Daniel Austin played well in defence while Carryduff’s scorers
Darragh Brownlee and Gary Morris were the pick of their attack.
Bredagh have a
bye in next week’s series and so Liatroim will be keen to extend their league
lead when they take on visiting Carryduff. Kilclief play host to Castlewellan
and should keep in touch with the leaders with a home victory.
Meanwhile in
South Down, Warrenpoint and Ballela are setting the pace. Both had convincing
wins in last week’s series with Shamrocks going under to Warrenpoint while
Clonduff were no match for the visiting Ballela side. The crunch match in this
section comes next Friday when Warrenpoint travel to meet the West Down men.
Ballyvarley take on Clonduff also on Friday.
