Weaker Counties need Cash - 10/09/2002

Down hurling boss Jimmy O'Reilly has called on the GAA to set aside money for the 'weaker' counties such as Down, Derry and Antrim to travel to play top opposition.

He feels that their is a greater need for greater investment to undertake trips to the likes of Weford and Kilkenny, which would cost a lot of money. Players need to be given quality time down their he feel's but taking a panel of players and managment on such trips would take a lot of substantial cash, cash which at present county boards do not have.

O'Reilly has also call for change to the present league format - he calls for a middle band league for counties such as Down, Derry, Antrim, Dublin, and Laois.
