Babs' men break Down resistance - 19/01/04

UCD 0-21DOWN 0-13 Walsh Cup

In arrears by three points at the interval, the UCD hurlers produced a storming second half display to overwhelm Down in the opening round of the Walsh Cup at Belfield yesterday.

UCD manager Babs Keating was suitably pleased with his charges. "I liked the way they knocked the ball about in the second half and generally I must say I am pleased with the progress made," said the former Tipperary and Offaly boss.

Tipperary duo Colm Ryan and Eamonn Ryan, Wexford's John O'Connor and Red Barry and Offaly's Brendan Murphy, a late All-Star call-up, figured prominently for UCD who were much fitter than a Down side who haven't had a serious match since they were beaten by Antrim in the Ulster championship semi-final last June.
