Down Ladies Championship Preview - 28th June

Down Ladies sponsored by 'Around a Pound' play Monaghan on Sunday July 4th in the Senior Championship. At the time of writing the time and venue have not yet been decided.

Championship fever hit the Mourne County on Saturday evening with some very interesting ties up for decision. In the Junior division, Ardglass and Aughlisnafin progressed as expected. Shamrocks were the surprise winners in their tussle with Teconnaught, the east down girls will rue some wayward shooting which led to their demise.

The intermediate clash between Bright and Clonduff saw the hilltown girls progress to the semi-finals with a comfortable win at Killough.

The clash of the round in the senior division brought together Bosco and Bredagh. The game was very even in the first half with Michaela Downey and Joanne Lavery particulary dominant for their respective teams. At the interval Bosco led 1-09 to Bredagh's 1-06. The goals coming from Michaela Downey (Bosco) & Joanne Lavery (Bredagh)

A dominant ten minute period in the second half effectively secured the victory for Bosco as they scored 2 goals without reply from Michaela Downey & Sharon Murnaghan. A late Bredagh goal by Geraldine Grimley could not prevent an impressive Bosco victory leaving the final score Bosco 3-14 Bredagh 2-08. On this performance Bosco will be favourites to land the Championship title with the main threat likely to come from last years winners Castlewellan who they can't meet until the final.

Important Fixtures Update:

The Under 16 Championship semi finals due to be played on Saturday 3rd July will now be played on Wednesday 7th July due to the Down Senior mens C'Ship qualifying match against Tyrone. Any club involved in the under 16 championship semi-finals will have their senior match for this date refixed by the fixtures committee.
