The Down Ladies County Board
have extended their sponsorship agreement with
Newry Company ‘Around A Pound’ to
include the Down Minor Team. The striving business
based in Newry and Banbridge is owned by Gerard
and Siobhan Rice and already acts as chief sponsor
to the Down Ladies Senior Team. Speaking at the
presentation of the new Minor Jerseys, Down Minor
Manager Noel Haughey said “The ongoing support
provided by ‘Around A Pound’ to local
sports has been first class and their commitment
to ladies football in Co.Down has contributed
to the excellent progress being made at all levels.”
To date, 2005 has been a good
year for Down Ladies with the Senior Team reaching
the Division Three playoffs. They face Waterford
B on April 10th. The Minor and U-16 teams are
also progressing well under the tutelage of Noel
Haughey, John McCarthy and Michaela Downey. The
Minors had a convincing win over Armagh in the
first game of the round robin Championship format
but succumbed to a strong Monaghan side in their
second. The U-16s easily qualified for the playoff
stages of their respective Championship with easy
wins over Armagh and Antrim.
