Down Ladies start League campaign - 14/11/02

Down's lady footballers have their first outing of the season in the National Football League on Sunday when they travel to near-neighbours Armagh to play the home side in what should be a close and exciting encounter.

Both sides have many talented players in their respective sides, and the outcome will depend on which team plays to their full ability on the day. It is also a 'local derby' clash, and that in itself should make the exchanges interesting to say the least!

Ladies' football soaring

AN interesting fact emerged from a recent Irish Government report on sport reveals that ladies' football is the fourth largest sport in the country. There are 900 clubs and some 80,000 players taking part at present. Full time development posts are being considered with seminars currently being held in all provinces.

The Ulster Ladies' Council celebrates ten years in existence with a special banquet in Kelly's Inn, Omagh, on Friday, November 22.
