GAA
125th Anniversary
2009 will mark the
125th Anniversary
of the founding of
the GAA at Hayes’
Hotel in Thurles.
The Association will
be planning a series
of events to commemorate
this historic anniversary
and a 125th Anniversary
committee under the
Chairmanship of former
Armagh footballer
Jarlath Burns has
already been put in
place. As part of
the Association’s
plans, we have commissioned
the largest public
history project undertaken
to date on the GAA.
A team of researchers
will carry out more
than 3,000 interviews
with fans, officials
and players of all
ages for the project.
It is expected to
take more than four
years to complete.

CONGRATULATIONS
to St. John’s GAC
who were the best
disciplined club
in the county during
the past year. The
disciplinary records
revealed at county
convention showed
that the Drumnaquoile
outfit had a clean
sheet for the year.
They were followed
by An Riocht, Dundrum
and Dromara in the
disciplinary league
table. Bottom of
list of the 48 football
clubs in the county
came St. Michael’s.
Just above them
were Kilclief, Rostrevor
