Downey
girls nominated
TWO Down players are
among the 45 nominations
for the All-Ireland
Ladies All Stars selection,
which will be announced
later this month.
Lisa Downey is among
the defenders listed
while Michaela Downey
is nominated in the
attack. Both are members
of the successful
Clonduff club who
are county champions
again this year.
Ladies:
Down Ladies Preview
for upcoming Qualifier Down
have been drawn
against Kerry,
in the next round
of the qualifiers.
They were the
strongest team
in the draw and
topped division
1a in the national
league
Ladies
Round-up
Castlewellan lead
the way in the senior
league with 4 wins
out of 4. Clonduff
the other unbeaten
side in the division
have maximum points
from 3 games played.
Both sides will
have met before
the deadline for
this article and
this will go someway
in deciding where
the honours might
lie in 2008. Bredagh
are steadily making
progress and after
a great first half
against the yellow's
last week in hilltown
they fell to the
wayside. Its still
very much early
days but the 'Bredagh
Belles' can't be
ruled out of the
running.
In the Intermediate
League Carryduff
and Bright are leading
the pack, they will
also have met before
the deadline for
this article and
one of them will
possibly have suffered
their first defeat
of the season though
I wouldn't entirely
rule out a draw.
This should be the
game of the division.
Ballymartin in 3rd
place are at home
to Tullylish and
should they win
they will put pressure
on the top 2.
In the Junior League
Shanrocks are the
in form side throwing
up massive scores
against most of
their opposition
to date. Even at
this early stage
they would be favourtie
for the title. Teconnaught
are probably the
team best placed
to challenge the
Newry outfit.
The U-16 leagues
are still in their
infancy Carryduff
are leading the
way in Section 'A'
with Saul following
suit in Section
'B'. Likewise in
the U-14 leagues
Section 'A' Carryduff
are out in front
and Saul/Teconnaught/Rostrevor
lead the pack in
Section 'B'. With
only 1 game played
in Section 'C' Loughinisland
are on top.It's
early days with
alot of football
yet to be played
so expect swings
and turns before
the league end.
Clubs are again
reminded that it
is their responsibility
to get the scores
to Anthony Crozier
for for all Senior/Intermediate/Junior
games. All under-age
scores to be sent
through to Tommy
McCauley.
