Clonduff
Ladies put on their best show of the year
30/06/2003
In the home game against Aughlisnafin Clonduff
put on their best display of the year. Missing
four of the girls who would be considered
regular started, Clonduff dominated throughout
the game and in every position. Caroline McCumiskey,
at corner back, played her first full game,
and played like a veteran. Lisa Parr had a
storming game at no. 13.
Sara Louise Carr made her debut, coming into
the game as a sub, and is certainly a player
to watch out for. Playing against the breeze
in the first half, Clonduff ran up a score
of 1-9 to 0-4.
The visitors only managed 2 points in the
second half while Clonduff added a further
8 points to leave the final score Clonduff
1-17 Aughlisnafin 0-6

Burren ladies
defeat Bright 11/06/2003
The Burren ladies team had to work hard to
hold onto their lead over Bright and came
away tops with the final scores totalling
Burren 3-9 to Bright 1-9
Clonduff
ladies gain win over Teconnaught 11/06/2003
Teconnaught Ladies 2-4
Clonduff Ladies3-12
On Tuesday night Clonduff Ladies played their
first game in 3 weeks and although the Hilltown
outfit had a convincing win in the end, there
were signs of lack of match practice. Teconnaught
played it hard and physical and ended the
game with 14 players.
Ardglass
Girls defeat the Bridge 11/06/2003
On Sunday the U -16 girls' team played Ardglass
in the Down championship and in conditions
which were more reminiscent of November than
June it was the East Down side who emerged
victorious, 0-6 to 1 -1. Ardglass played with
the wind and the rain in the first half and
by half time had built up a five points lead,
0 -6 to 0 -1. On the restart, Ardglass continued
to dominate but missed several good chances.
The 'Bridge had trouble getting the ball up
to their forwards but eventually they broke
through for a goal but it came too late to
have any influence on the final outcome.
Ardglass
continue good form 06/06/2003
Ardglass Ladies U-16 footballers maintained
their recent good form with two excellent
wins. A league win over Carryduff last week
was followed up by a brilliant 0-7 to 0-4
championship win over Mayobridge.
Mayobridge
U-16 Girls' make history 22/05/2003
A little piece of history was made at Mayobridge
on Sunday (17/05/2003) when the U -16 girls'
football side played their first competitive
game. Their league opponents, Ballymartin,
proved too strong, however, and ran out convincing
winners. Nevertheless, the 'Bridge girls can
be well satisfied with their efforts as they
kept toiling right to the end.
Annaclone
defeat Burren 20/05/2003
Burren ladies had a close match when they
recently went up against Annaclone and the
final score was Burren 4-6 to 4-9. Annaclone
dominated the opening ten minutes of the match
but from then on there was a great display
of football from both sides.
Burren U16's
and Ballymartin Draw 20/05/2003
The Burren U16 girls recently played their
first match of the season but unfortunately
failed to show their full potential on the
day. It was a scrappy display of football
from both the Burren and Ballymartin sides.
There were holes in the Burren team from poor
defending and marking but Karen McKevitt put
up a wonderful performance. The final score
was a draw of 1-4 all.
Burren Ladies get first
points of the season against Dowpatrick
18/05/2003
Although Burren Ladies Senior team had lost
the previous two matches, they really made
up for it in their match against Downpatrick
when the final score was Burren 4-1 to Downpatrick
1-10. Since those previous two league matches
of the season, the Burren team had greatly
improved and developed their game. The first
half was a low scoring session for both sides
with the half time score for Burren 1-0 to
0-4. The second half saw some great football.
However the ladies were not so happy to get
a draw in the end although they did score
their first point of the season.
Saval Girls
win under-13 League Final 18/05/2003
Saval girls started this League final dominating
the opening ten minutes of play. However the
majority of the rest of the first half left
Burren with possession. This possession did
not pay off, as the scores at the end of the
first half were scoreless for Burren with
Saval having a 1-5 lead. At half-time there
were a few adjustments made to the Burren
side which made all the difference in the
second half. Burren again held the majority
of the possession throughout the second half,
with huge support from the Burren supporters
when Emily Browne put a score on the scoreboard.
Siofra Murdock scored two great goals followed
by another fine goal from Mairead Trainor,
leaving just four points between the two sides.
However the Saval team charged ahead but Mairead
Trainor wasn’t giving up just yet scoring
a final goal before the whistle blew. The
final score was Burren 4-1 to Saval 3-9.
A whos who
in INTO Girls Sevens Final 14/05/2003
The annual County Down INTO Girls Seven football
finals were held in St Patricks park Newcastle
last Tuesday with Carrick PS Burren defeating
Mayobridge in the final 2-03 to 1-00. Looking
at the two team sheets was a who's who in
Gaelic football in Down, with names such as
Linden, McGoveren, O'Hare, Fegan and Murdock
all to be found. Carrick will represent Co
Down in the regional finals to take place
in Louth later this month, and we may well
see some of these girls playing in Croke Park
later this year.

08/05/2003
