Club News
The Junior County Final between Aughlisnafin and Tullylish is on Sunday 29th August, details to follow next week.
The Intermediate/Senior Finals are scheduled for Saturday 4th September
Due to the County U-16's involvement in the Trudi Kearns competition on Saturday, it was a quiet weekend on the club scene.
A few midweek games played saw Ballymartin account for Bright 2-11 to 1-04 and County Junior finalist's Aughlisnafin draw with Intermediate finalists Clonduff 3-05 to 2-08 in the intermediate league

Championship News:

The intermediate finalists are now known after a pulsating semi-final clash between Ballymartin and Clonduff
played out in excellent conditions in Castlewellan on Sunday August 1st. Clonduff by virtue of their 0-14 to 2-06 win
will now meet Loughinisland in the decider on Saturday September 4th.
The Intermediate final will be the curtain raiser to the senior final which will see Bosco and Castlewellan do battle for the county title. Venues and times yet to be decided

Ladies’ football course 20/02/2004
The Ladies’ Gaelic Football Association are hosting the first ever ladies’ football foundation course in Down at the Carryduff GAA Centre on Saturday March 6. The course is under the umbrella of the National Coaching and Training Centre at Limerick University and The Women's Sports Network and will deal with the fundamentals of ladies’ Gaelic football and coaching. Eugene New York bound 20/02/2004
CONGRATULATIONS to Dromara referee Eugene O’Hare on being appointed the take charge of a history-making ladies’ football game in New York. Eugene will be n charge of an exhibition game at Gaelic Park on May 2 featuring the 2003 Ladies’ All-Stars and a Rest of Ireland team. It will be a curtain raiser to the Connacht SFC tie between New York and Mayo.

Down Ladies kick-start their league campaign 02/02/2004
The Down Ladies kick-start their league campaign on Sunday 8th February against Derry at the Marshes in Newry.
The game is penciled in with a 2.00pm start. As this is the girl’s only home game, all support would be gratefully appreciated.
Given the weather we have been experiencing of late please check with your club for any change of time/venue before traveling.

Ladies Championship draws 02/02/2004
The championship draws for Senior/Intermediate and Junior divisions were made at a recent meeting of the Down Ladies County Board. In the senior draw, an exciting encounter is expected between great rivals Bredagh and Bosco, while Castlewellan will await the outcome of Bryansford and Annaclone as they look to defend their title in 2004. In the Intermediate division, Clonduff the Junior champions from 2003 have a tough encounter against last years beaten finalists Bright, Ballymartin await the winners. In the Junir division, Aughlisnafin will be much fancied. We also welcome on board Newry Shamrocks, Saval and Carryduff as they make their championship debuts in 2004.

Down Ladies first training session of 2004 12/01/2004
The Down Ladies had their first training session of 2004 on Sunday 11th January at the Derryleckagh playing fields Newry, under new management duo of Tommy McGrath and Declan Larkin. Tommy and Declan will be well known in the ladies circuit as they previously managed the very successful Bosco ladies.
The next training session is scheduled for Friday 16th January at 7:30pm at the Downpatrick leisure centre. We would like to wish Tommy and Declan every success in 2004.
Their first match of the year is a home tie against Derry on 8th February.
If any club is in a position to allow their facilities to be used once a week by the Down ladies can they make themselves known to Tommy McGrath on tel # 30260586.
