Success for Down Scór na nÓg
competitors at Ulster Semi-finals - 06/01/04
.

At the recent Ulster Scór na nÓg semi finals in Armagh with competitors from Antrim, Armagh and Down clubs competing, seven of the eight Down acts qualified for the Ulster finals which will take place in Silverbridge Co. Armagh on Saturday 17th January at 7.00pm.

The Mayobridge club led the charge with three wins. Sisters Jane and Claire Rooney each won their competitions in Solo Singing and Recitation respectively, while James Gorman, together with Donna and Declan Magee qualified in Instrumental Music. St Michael’s and Rostrevor won the Ballad Groups and Novelty Act. The St John’s Set Dancers qualified in their competition and the Banbridge trio of Lochlainn Hill, Donal McCann and Caoimhe Hill won through in the Question Time competition.

For most, it’s second or third time around at the Ulster finals in their respective competitions although, it’s a first for County Set Dancing champions St John’s who are there for the first time, and the Quiz trio who will represent Down and Banbridge for the first time in this competition.
