Claire Rooney, Mayobridge, is
congratulated by Jerry Quinn on winning the
Recitation competition at Ulster Scor na nOg Final in Silverbridge on Saturday
20th January
Despite
having four acts through to the finals, Mayobridge’s Claire Rooney, reciting her
‘Sam’s Prayer’ poem was Down’s only representative to win her way through to the
all- Ireland finals of the 2007 Scór na nÓg competitions which will be held in
the Count John McCormack Hall Athlone on 17th February.
Saul’s
Ballad Group, St John’s Set Dancers and the Loughinisland put up a brave show in
the competitions, which were won by Killyclougher of Tyrone, Crosserlough of
Cavan and Scotstown of Monaghan respectively.
Claire,
the holder now of four Ulster titles, is taking part in her final year of Scór
na nÓg has already competed at All-Ireland level in 2003, and last year when she
represented Down in both Recitation and Solo Song.
In the
finals in Silverbridge, only Donegal with Solo Singing and Novelty Act was
successful in winning more than one of the competitions; Cavan, Derry, Antrim,
Tyrone, Monaghan and Down had one winner each. |
