Senior
Scór Season Starts
The 2006
Down Senior GAA Scór season starts this
weekend in four venues, two in East Down and
two in South Down.
This
Friday 3rd February at 7.30pm,
Ballyholland GAC plays host to artists and
dancers from Warrenpoint, Mayobridge,
Annaclone, St Michaels, Clonduff and of course
their own club, while at 6.00pm on Sunday 5th,
the Longstone GAA Centre will host to Attical,
Glassdrumman, Drumgath, Clonduff, Rostrevor,
Clann na Banna, An Riocht, and Saval.
Whilst
the clubs competing in East Down are not to
hand, the venues there are Kilcoo on Friday
night (7.30pm) and Saul on Sunday (6.30pm).
The East Down final is scheduled for 19th
February in Dundrum while the South final is
in Mayobridge a week earlier on 12th.
The
County final has been fixed for Castlewellan
on 26th February. With the winners
going on to compete against their opposite
numbers from Antrim and Derry in Slaughneil on
4th March.

record rare double at the East Down Scor finals

Bredagh recorded a rare double at the East Down
Scor final on Sunday Night with Jack Devaney
winning the recitation and the quiz team of
Jack, Martin Mc Carney and Paul Doran also taking
first place. Bredagh will now be doubly represented
at the County Final on Sunday 7th March.
Training for senior men
continues on Sunday at Cherryvale (12 midday)
although a challenge match is planned for Sunday
29th versus Glenavy.Training on Monday and Wednesday
at 7pm at PEC - all welcome including new members.

Down Scór Finals 01/03/2004
The South Down finals
of the annual GAA Scór competitions were
held on Sunday night last (29th February) when
a big crowd turned out in Mayobridge to see
the talent on display.
The one disappointing part of the night’s entertainment
was the absence of any novelty acts, which have
in the past created great enjoyment for Scór
patrons.
However, the clubs taking part put on a wonderful
show with very talented dancers, singers and
musicians all playing their part.
The results were as follows:

at the Ulster Scor Sinsear semi-final at Silverbridge
on Saturday night. Saul ceili dancers, Clonduff
set dancers and quiz team, Mayobridge instrumental
group and Mona Byrne in the recitation have made
it to the Ulster final which will be held at the
same venue this Saturday night

At the Scor na nOg All Ireland finals in Athlone
on Saturday 15th February, Mayobridge Instrumental
Group of Darren Magee, Declan Magee, Donna Magee
and James Gorman won the All-Ireland title.
There was one other Ulster All-Ireland success.
Alison Bradley from the Watty Grahams club in
Derry (who beat Down's representative, Jane Rooney
in the Ulster final) won the All-Ireland Solo
Singing title.
Claire Rooney, with her recitation about Sam Maguires
possible return to the Mournes in the near future,
was beaten by Niamh Gregory of Rathnew Co Wicklow
in the Recitation / Storytelling competition.
South Down Scor Sinsear takes place this weekend

Down's Scor Successes
17/01/2003
Down won through in five of the eight sections
in the Ulster Scor na nOg semi-finals at Saval
Community Centre last Saturday night. Armagh were
successful in the other three sections, with Antrim
failing to get through in any section on the night.
Mayobridge were the Mourne county's most successful
club - winning the instrumental music, solo-singing
and recitation sections. St. Michael's were successful
in the ballad group section, while Rostrevor were
best in the novelty act.
