KYC made a presentation at the Launch of the Newry Mourne & Down Intercultural Forum in Downpatrick.

The Cumann na mBunscoil indoor Gaelic Finals took place at Dunavil on Friday past.

A group from KYC enjoyed a trip to Warrenpoint Panto last week.

An Riocht Cul Camp is scheduled for 4th to 8th July.

Summer Scheme
It may only be February but already planning ahead to the Summer Scheme is underway. The Education Authority has organised training such as TOPS Activity Training, Minor Games, Get Ahead with Cred and Introduction to Volunteering for Summer Schemes.
TOPS Activity Training
Also known as ‘Summer Scheme in a bag’. TOPS sports sessions use the contents of the TOPS sports bag to show how to run fun and easy sports & activity sessions. This is a fun practical workshop full of ideas for games, sports and activities. The course is very hands-on so you'll need to be ready to take part in a variety of games, activities & sports. The course covers games that can be played by a wide range of age levels and are suitable for small groups or big groups. The course uses the contents of TOPS Activities bags which will be presented on completion of the course. Also on completion of the course participants will have experience of running TOPS sport & activity sessions, be aware of the importance of safety when running sport & activity sessions, be able to use existing club resources to run sport & activity sessions.
Minor Games
To gain hands on experience of various games for young people. It will also highlight how the use of games can be linked to the youth service Model for Effective Practice
Get Ahead with Cred
Participants will understand the concept and meaning of Community Relations work’
understand the causes and impact of prejudice, sectarianism, racism and discrimination, recognise how identity, tradition, culture and citizenship are formed  and perceived by self and others, recognise the relevance of Human Rights law and conventions & Equality legislation, recognise the causes and process of conflict & be aware of models of conflict resolution, recognise the skills knowledge and competence required for developing a community relations programme, understand the process required to develop a community relations programme.
Introduction to Volunteering for Summer Schemes
This programme will enable young people, aged 16+, to be recruited and trained as Volunteers and placed with youth workers and units to assist with Summer Schemes/Projects.  Participants will be enrolled on Millennium Volunteer Scheme.  If interested, there will be the opportunity for them to continue their volunteering throughout the year.  This is an excellent opportunity for young people wishing to enhance their employability skills, gain valuable work experience and gain a recognised award.
This course will cover the following broad topic areas: introduction to youth work,
why volunteer, roles of volunteers, guidelines for safe working, games/activities to use with young people, placement opportunities.

An Riocht membership fees are now due: Family (2 adults & unlimited U18) £60, Adults £25, Senior Citizens & U18 £10.

The An Riocht Pharmacy Project for older people will resume 7pm to 8pm on Wednesday 24 February.

A Red Cross First-aid course has been arranged at Dunavil for Monday 7th March from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, places are limited so book yours asap.

The Adult Footballers and Camogs have arranged Lip Sync Battle for Saturday 19th March.

With the new kitchen facilities almost ready, an opportunity has arisen to complete a ‘Cook it’ training programme.
‘Cook it’ is a Community Nutrition Education Programme that promotes healthy eating, good food hygiene and enhances cooking skills. It has been produced by the Public Health Agency for use in Northern Ireland and is aimed at groups where cost is a consideration. It is delivered by facilitators who are recruited from community and voluntary organisations and trained by the ‘Cook it’ dietitian and is a practical programme that can be used by many groups.
‘Cook it’ facilitator training is informal, interactive and practical and covers food hygiene, principles of healthy eating, using the ‘Eatwell Plate’, using the ‘Cook it’ pack and displays, and experiencing a ‘Cook it’ session. Anyone interested contact the club asap, places are limited.

Other training opportunities include Leadership in Youth Work for Young People Level 1, Youth Trainee Leadership Level 2, Outreach & Detached Youth Work, Rescue Emergency First Aid, Promoting Positive Behaviour. If interested in any of these or just want to know more contact the club asap.
