Carrickmacross came out on the right side of a thrilling contest with a fancied Ballela side in Clones yesterday afternoon.
The Monaghan men had Luke McKenna to thank in large part for the extra-time victory, with a mammoth scoring performace seeing him rack up a personal tally of 0-18.
 
The sides were level at 0-04 apiece at the first water break, Mal Magee converting all of Ballela's points.  By half-time, Carrickmacross had opened a two-point gap with McKenna to the fore in the shooting department.
 
The tables were turned early in the second half when Magee struck two goals in the space of three minutes to put Ballela 2-09 to 0-10 in front.
 
However, Carrickmacross refuesed to go away and the shooting prowess of McKenna had them back in front again with two miniutes to go.  Magee ponits ensured the game would go to extra-time but a goal from Niall Bermingham had Carrickmacross lead until a quickfire goal and point from Jonathan McCusker left Ballela just a point behind.
