Danny Murphy to stand down as Ulster Secretary and Chief Executive

Burren Club man and former Chairman of the Down County Committee, Danny Murphy has announced that he is to retire from the post of Ulster Council GAA Secretary and Chief Executive Officer from February 1st next.

Down GAA would like to thank Danny for his much valued contribution at Provincial and National Level, but also acknowledge his lifetime of service to the Down County Board and to all the Clubs in Down. We wish him well for the future.

Danny who is a proud Down man was a selector with the Down senior footballers in the early 1990's and played football for St Mary's Burren for almost two decades and also lined out as a hurler for Rostrevor and Warrenpoint. Danny held various posts on Down County Board including Secretary and Chairman and will have servered as an officer of the Ulster Council for over 31 years, while being its Secretary and Chief Executive Officer since 1998. A former member of the Central Council and vice-president of the GAA, Danny also served as vice-president and president of the Ulster Council before being appointed provincial secretary.

Danny’s vision and leadership has been at the core of the GAA’s Community Engagement and Outreach work in Ulster, and he has overseen more than £100 million of investment in GAA projects and has put in place a strong strategic vision which has resulted in an unprecedented level of success for the Province.

The St. Mary’s Club in Burren have a motto “Ar Aghaidh le Chéile” or simply “Onwards Together” - Best wishes and thank you Danny - best in your retirement - Ar Aghaidh le Chéile
