Down to meet Monaghan in 2022 Ulster Championship

Sunday 28th November 2021

The draws for the 2022 provincial senior football championships have been made this afternoon with Down being drawn again Monaghan.

All-Ireland champions Tyrone meet Fermanagh in the preliminary round of the Ulster championship next year with the winners playing Derry in the quarter-finals. Donegal face Armagh in what should be a tasty last eight clash, with 2020 champions Cavan facing Antrim and Monaghan taking on James McCartan’s Down.

There is no Super 8s in the 2022 All-Ireland series. Instead the championship reverts to the format last used in 2017 with the addition of a new competition, the Tailteann Cup for the counties who finish up in Division 3 and 4 of the league next spring. However, a place in any of the provincial finals guarantees a county a place in the Sam Maguire championship which has a back door format.
