Dundrum GAC to help co-ordinate unique football art project in Down

Thomas Brezing is an artist based in Balbriggan, Co. Dublin and has been working on an environmental art project which deals with plastic & marine pollution.

The art work will be made out of a large number of sports balls, in particular GAA balls and the end product will be a life size whale-like skeleton.
The motivation for this new work is to raise awareness about plastic pollution in the world's oceans whilst highlighting the harmful affect on marine life and ultimately ourselves. Him and his wife have contacted many GAA clubs and set up a few collection points (in Galway, Sligo, Meath and Westmeath) where they also had articles published in relation to the project in order to collect as many sports balls as possible and to encourage people to recycle the old/broken/punctured balls.

It would be great to get some sports balls from Co. Down for the project as well. Thomas would like the project to be as broad and inclusive as possible (they have even received footballs from German and Finnish clubs).

If your club is in a position to provide old balls then contact Dundrum secretary Mark Fitzsimons on 07523228422 or secretary.dundrum.down@gaa.
