Eirgrid become Official GAA Timing Sponsor

Tuesday 26th July 2016

The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) and EirGrid are delighted to announce the state-owned company, that manages and develops Ireland's electricity grid, is to become the Official GAA Timing Sponsor. The announcement was made at Croke Park today by GAA Ard-Stiúrthóir, Paraic Duffy, and EirGrid Customer Relations Manager, Adele Sleator.

It is the first time in the history of the GAA that an official timing sponsor has been partnered with and the new deal will see EirGrid strengthen links with the biggest sporting organisation in the country. EirGrid are currently two years into a three-year sponsorship of the EirGrid GAA Football U21 Football All-Ireland Championship and also sponsored last year’s EirGrid International Rules Series.

The sponsorship runs from the concluding stages of this season’s All-Ireland Senior Football and Hurling Championships through to the end of the 2019 championships.

EirGrid is celebrating becoming the GAA's Official Timing Sponsor by offering a chance for one club in each province to win a digital clock and scoreboard for their grounds. The competition is to be run in the coming weeks with details to follow on EirGrid social media channels.

Supporters watching at home and in Croke Park will also be given the opportunity to win match tickets by guessing and tweeting the time of the first goal scored in upcoming matches using #EirGridTimeIsNow.

Galway footballer Damien Comer and Waterford hurler Pauric Mahony attended today’s event at Croke Park ahead of their upcoming games in the All-Ireland series.

Speaking at the announcement GAA Ard-Stiúrthóir Paraic Duffy said: “We are delighted to welcome EirGrid on board as the Official GAA Timing Sponsor.  It’s an historic first for our Association and we wanted to ensure we could work with a trusted and pro-active sponsor.

“EirGrid have shown themselves to be just that in our dealings with them so far, both as sponsors of our U21 Football Championship and last year’s International Rules Series.

“I look forward to strengthening, what has been a very positive relationship from the GAA’s perspective, with this new sponsorship.”

EirGrid Customer Relations Manager Adele Sleator added; “EirGrid is very pleased to become the first ever Official GAA Timing Sponsor and look forward to working with the GAA in that capacity in the coming years.  We’d like to thank everyone at the GAA and especially the commercial team for getting this sponsorship in place.

“We have some exciting plans which supporters can expect to see rolled out in the coming weeks that will have a positive impact, not only on a national level, but also locally in the community.

“I’d also like to thank Damien and Pauric for being with us today and wish them well for the remainder of this year’s championships.”

EirGrid will begin its role as Official GAA Timing Sponsor with immediate effect.
