Ulster JHC Final: Eoghan Rua 1-16 Newry Shamrocks 0-11

Saturday 16th November 2019

Dara Mooney scored the only goal in injury-time as Eoghan Rua of Derry defeated Down's Newry Shamrocks by 1-16 to 0-11 in the Ulster club JHC final in Dungannon.

Postponed last weekend due to an unplayable pitch, this rescheduled decider was evenly contested for most of the first half before a run of points from Dara McGoldrick, Tomas Magee and Sean Leo McGoldrick helped the Coleraine men to a 0-10 to 0-6 interval lead. Shamrocks scores coming from Eoin McGuinness, two from Artie McGuiness and three frees coming from Conor McPolin.

Sean Leo McGoldrick extended the winners' advantage after the restart before Newry closed the gap with a Niall Lennon point from play and three 65 frees from Artie McGuinness. Sean Campbell also scored a free for the Newry side to leave 3 points between the sides (Eoghan Rua 0-14 Shamrocks 0-11) with five minutes left on the clock.  However, the loss of attacker Eoin McGuinness to injury was a blow to the border town outfit and their fate was sealed when Mooney netted in stoppage-time to leave the score Eoghan Rua 1-16 Newry Shamrocks 0-11.
