Urban and Rural Areas - Ulster Council Working Group

A workgroup has been established by the Ulster Council to assess the status of our Clubs in both Urban and Rural Areas within the Province. Maureen O Higgins is the Down representative on this workgroup and the group now wish to identify in each County two Clubs who might well benefit from their assistance and expertise.

The main strategic aim of the Urban and Rural Development workgroup within the Ulster Council is to put in place a structure of active support for clubs who Counties feel are in need of assistance in order to operate more positively within the association.

Listed below are areas that the Workgroup have identified whereby Clubs may be failing and where they may be able to help. If your Club would like to be involved in this process and you meet any of the possible criteria listed below then can you please contact Maureen O’Higgins ulstercouncildelegate2.down@gaa.ie on or before Thursday 25th August with an expression of interest.

Possible criteria:

  1. Areas of Financial Concern

 - Arrears in club fees.

 - Non-return of club accounts ahead of County Convention annually.

 - Issues raised on examination of club accounts.

  1. Non-attendance at County Committee Meetings 
  1. Failing to field in any code, at any level, in which the club are registered.
  1. Non-attendance at County, Provincial development events / training.

- County events (to be defined by County Development Officer and Games Development Manager)

 - Volunteer Development Pathway (Ulster GAA)

 - Other GAA events (to be defined by Ulster GAA)

  1. Club property not held in Trust / Trustees not in order.
  1. Inability to fill all Committee roles.
  1. Lack of a Club Development Plan
  1. Lack of coaching qualifications (to be defined by  County Games Development Manager)
  1. Lack of vetting (to be defined by Childrens' Officer in Ulster GAA)
  1. Lack of suitable facilities
