Glen clinched their first Ulster club senior football championship title this afternoon thanks to a 1-12 to 1-6 win over Kilcoo at Armagh’s Athletic Grounds.

Nearly a year to the day since their provincial semi-final loss (AET) to the same opposition, Malachy O’Rourke’s men thoroughly produced the goods early on to rock the holders and kick on for the six-point victory. The Derry champions had landed the first five points of this provincial decider before Aaron Branagan’s goal on 12 minutes brought Kilcoo right back into it.

The Magpies had a chance to hit the front with a Paul Devlin penalty but it was struck wide and O’Rourke’s men would carry in a 0-7 to 1-3 lead at the break.

Danny Tallon’s frees kept the scoreboard ticking over for the Watty Grahams and while Kilcoo battled back to within one, they could never get on level terms.

In the end, Alex Doherty’s superb late goal (see below) sealed the triumph for Glen as they earned their place in the history books and now look forward to an All-Ireland semi-final date with Moycullen (Galway) next month.
