UNDERAGE FOOTBALL

Clonduff Take on Down Day in Croke Park

A group of our underage players had the fantastic opportunity of travelling to Dublin on Saturday last, representing Clonduff in the Down day at croke park. This was an unbelievable experience for them as they got 40 minutes of game time playing together on the pitch. A huge congratulations to Ella-Beth Rooney, Kyla Kearney, Daniel Mc Polin, Charlie McConville and Evan McConville.

U10 Football

U10'S HAVE SUCCESS IN DRUMGATH
Two teams travelled to Drumgath on Saturday 22nd April for their annual U10 Pat Meade tournament. We had 30 players in attendance, our Ogs played very well in group stages and qualified for semi final of shield where they were narrowly beaten by Drumgath but gave some very strong performances and everyone got plenty of game time. The Gaels went unbeaten in group stages and qualified for cup semi-final against Shane Oneills where they won eventually by 4 points. In the final they faced a very strong well drilled Mayobridge outfit and despite leading at half time were trailing by 2 points with around 3 mins to go following a lot of pressure in our own half from Mayobridge in the second half. The lads however dug deep and after a quick well placed free kick out of the clonduff defence the ball ended up in the back of the bridge net which was quickly followed by another goal for clonduff. Gaels eventually won by five points. Captain for the day and Birthday boy Charlie Morgan lifted the cup on behalf of Clonduff whilst being cheered on by his team mates. Well done to both teams as it was a whole panel effort. See everyone back at training Tuesday night!

U14 Football

U14 Feile 2017 - Abbey CBS

Clonduff U14 footballers travelled to Abbey CBS, Newry today to participate in the Down Feile Tournament 2017 on Easter Monday. In the group stages Clonduff were drawn with An Riocht, Bredagh and Drumaness. In the first two group games Clonduff held An Riocht and Bredagh scoreless whilst racking up some fantastic scores from play themselves. These games gave the management an opportunity to use the full squad of players ensuring that everyone got some game time. Clonduff won their 3rd and final group game convincingly and the team took a place in the Semi Final Stages of the Tournament.
In the Semi Finals they were drawn against a physical and well organised Shamrocks team who came second in their group. Clonduff again were confident in possession and continued to move the ball well. The boys were clinical in front of goals running out winners by a 5 point margin.
In the Final they met the winners of the other section - Saval.
The teams have already met in the league this season in a game that ended in a draw. Clonduff management knew that the team were going to have up their game and take their scores in order to be victorious on this occasion. The 1st half started well with Clonduff dominating the play in the early stages of the game. The boys were winning the breaks around the middle of the field and were quick to move the ball to the forwards who again took some great scores. In the early stages of the 2nd half Clonduff continued to press hard at Saval. They also had some strong defending of their own to do with Saval having a wind advantage. Clonduff continued to hold on to possession well and despite a late Saval goal Clonduff were able to hold out for a 7 point win. In the final the boys played some their best football of the season to date with the team linking up well from goalkeeper to attack. A fantastic win for the management and the team and hopefully they can continue this form in to the next league game.
Well done to everyone involved and thanks to the parents and supporters who travelled to support the team.
Panel: Bryan Rice, James Brannigan, Gerard Carville, Aaron Norris, Max Dursley, Senan Carr, Conor McComisky, Ronan Matthews, Patrick Cowan, Dan Rafferty, Will Kelly, Shane Close, Eoin Devlin, Callum Donnan, Adam Fegan, Aaron Gribben, Oisin Logan, Shea Morgan, Donnacha Burns, Joey O'Hare, Conor Greer, Eoghan McAlinden
Well Done lads and management. Keep up the hard work!

U16 Football
ACFL Clonduff 2-8  Burren  3-14
Despite a very competitive first half of football the U16 boys were unfortunate to lose out to Burren at home on Thurday night. For most of the game they looked the most likely winners, creating chance after chance and netting some fantastic goals. However, with a high number of wides and missed opportunities it wasn't meant to be.
Credit to Burren who made the most of their opportunities and won the game deservedly in the end.
Team and Scorers: Darragh Mc Alinden, Eugene Lively, Conor Parr (Vc), Sean Mc Cumisky,Padraig Morgan, Laurence Brannigan, Rory McKernan,Tom Close (Cpt) 1-2, Oisin Tumilty,Charlie Kerr 0-1, Eamon Brown 0-3, Padraig Clancy 0-3, Padraig Kelly, Aiden Markey 1-1, Oran Wilson.
Sub used Peter Mc Avoy, Jamie Mc Donald.
