CLONDUFF JULY QUIZ
Orla Maginn was the quiz master/mistress in Clonduff Clubrooms on Friday night - she could easily make her living as a comedienne (instead of slogging her guts out as a nurse). The craic was mighty, the questions testing but the kind you thought "OMG I should know that" (thanks Kitty Fegan), competition tight but at the end of the day it was "League Champions" aka Clonduff Hurlers who picked up the cup. The first Friday of each month should not be missed by anyone!
At the end of the night Club Chairman Jimmie Cousins presented a cheque for £250 to Camogie Chair Guinevra McGilligan.
Thanks as always to Dermot and his staff for the great supper!
The next quiz is on Friday 5th August and the proceeds will go to the Handball Club - honestly this is the sort of night you shouldn't miss - Tony and Martin will be back at the helm but they will have to be at their very best to come up to Orla's standard in July!

FOOTBALL

SFL - SAVAL 0-7 V CLONDUFF 4-15
This was undoubtedly the best performance of the year, not only in terms of the final score but also the support play, the passing, the blocking and quality of play throughout the team with players willing and able to ride the tackles and make their own tackles often coming away with the ball. Shaun Murnin made his first senior start of the year and he marked it by scoring 1-1!
Clonduff had a commanding lead at half time - 3-8 to 0-3. Shaun was on the end of a slick move upfield for the first. Then Arthur converted a well struck penalty before tucking away the third.
The second half goal was the Gaelic Football goalkeeper's nightmare - Barry hit a magnificently flighted sideline ball which dropped in over the keeper's head.
Team and scorers: Paul Gribben, Shane McGreevy, Shane O'Hagan, Ruairi Lively, Brendan Britton (0-1), Rory Grant, Paul Lively, Aidan Carr, Patrick O'Hagan (0-2), Charlie Carr, Finbarr McConville (0-2), Stephen McConville (0-5), Shaun Murnin (1-1), Arthur McConville (2-0), Barry O'Hagan (1-4); Subs used: Conor Óg O'Hagan, John Brown, Patrick Matthews, John McPolin

SD U16 FL Clonduff 3-6 v Atticall 4-10
The U16s lost their last league groups game to a strong Atticall team but despite this they qualify for the Top 4 playoff starting end of July.
Clonduff leading by 4 points at half time started the second half strongly but failed to avail of some great chances. Atticall came more into the game and with the wind on their backs used their big full forward very well to run out deserving winners.

Clonduff team: James Carvill, Conor Parr, Kieran Mullholland, Shane Parr, Jamie O'Hagan (Capt), Rory McKernan, James Keenan, Shay Fitzpatrick, Charlie Kerr, Padraig Wilson, Padraig kelly, Tom Close, Eamon Brown; Subs used: Conor Fitzpatrick, Ethan Lyness-Feenan, Sean McCumisky, Pearse Cunningham, Darragh Fitzpatrick.

PRFL – Cumann Pheadar Naofa II v Clonduff II – Clonduff had good win

SDRFL – Clonduff III v Glenn II – Clonduff well beaten

The Minors were well beaten by Carryduff in AC MFL as were the U14s at the hands of Burren.

LADIES GAELIC FOOTBALL

U14 LGFA Burren v Clonduff
Clonduff travelled with just 14 girls due to the U12 game and a couple of key players on holidays. Nevertheless they put on a great performance against a bigger, stronger, fitter Burren side. They never let their heads go down and did score a commendable 6-9 but unfortunately the home side rattled in 8-16.
Team and scorers: Hannah Wilson, Cara O'Hanlon, Tierna Savage, Chloe Flynn, Ella McComiskey, Aoife Woods, Eve Matthews, Lauren Kane (2-2), Grace Cunningham (4-2), Caitlin Hughes (0-3), Orla McCusker, Kayleigh McPolin (0-2), Bernadette McCusker, Aoife McCusker

UNDER 12 LGFA
The girls travelled to Annaclone on Wednesday night and continued their unbeaten streak with 28 girls turning up for the match and everyone of them getting lots of game time.
Everyone of the girls played brilliantly with some good tackles, scores and free taking. Clonduff scored 3-6 while holding Annaclone scoreless
Team and scorers: Aoife Quinn, Grace Clancy (1-0), Ellen shields, Brianna McClean, Lilly Rafferty, Ava Morgan, Bláithín Shields, Kylah Kearney, Cody Morgan, Laura Close, Niamh McConville, Caoimhe McKeown, Una Fearon, Mia Carvill, Rosie McCann, Aoife Trainor, Cara Savage, Eimear Cunningham (0-2), Aimee Murtagh, Ceallagh Byrne (1-0), Aoife McGarry, Ella Beth Rooney, Anna Henning, Evéagh Kelly, Ellen McKay (1-2), Orla McCann, Clodagh Kelly (0-2)

HURLING

DIV 2 HL BALLYCRAN 1-7 v CLONDUFF 2-12 – FOR LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE!
For the second time in three days, Clonduff had another top of the table clash this time with Ballycran. After the disappointing defeat on Saturday to Derrynoose in the Ulster League it was vital that the Yellas regrouped and doubled their efforts if they were to secure the Down league in this final game.
Clonduff started the first half well, battling hard and securing the majority of possession. With a strong breeze slightly favouring Clonduff they would have hoped to have made more of their scoring chances, knowing they would be facing into the wind in the second half. Clonduff got a bit of luck mid-way through the half when a long free from Jamie Lynch was dropped into the net by the 'Cran keeper. It felt like Clonduff could push on from this and build their lead but when their defence was caught napping for a moment, a Ballycran attacker made an unmarked run up the centre and fired the ball to the back of the net.
Half-time score: Ballycran 1-4 v Clonduff 1-8
With a feeling that the wides in the first half may be costly, Clonduff knew it would require a massive effort in the second half to see this game through and that was exactly what they delivered. Every player stepped up to the markand dominated possession for the majority of the 30 minutes, winning virtually every breaking ball in the middle. With Ballycran having little possession their frustrations were starting to grow and indiscipline saw them reduced to 14 men. Paddy Branagan snr. rolled back the years with a fine performance in nets, thwarting one of Ballycran's only goal chances of the half, with a fantastic diving save low to his left. In the final 10 minutes Clonduff’s youth and fitness shone through, registering 1-2 whilst holding Ballycran scoreless in that period with Rhys Ward finding the back of the net.
Full-time score: Ballycran 1-7 v Clonduff 2-12
Team and scorers: Paddy Branagan Snr, JJ Gilmore, Danny Nugent, Jamie Lowry, Declan Rooney, Jamie Lynch (1-0), Darragh Downey, Christopher Young (0-3), John Murphy (0-2), Conor Tumilty (0-3), Kieran Smyth (0-1), Paddy Brannagan Jnr (0-1), Paul Bloomfield, Liam McParlan, Rhys Ward (1-2). Subs: Laurence Murphy, Gerard Coughlin and Gavin O’Hagan.
Clonduff faced an unenviable task of travelling to Ballycran, knowing either winning team would secure the Div 2 league. A fantastic team performance saw them achieve this and secure their first silverware of the season.
Best wishes to Fionbharr Murphy who sustained a broken finger against Derrynoose on Saturday and to Gavin O’Hagan who leaves for Austrailia on Sunday.

U14 Hurling League Clonduff 5-8 v Cumann Pheadar Naofa 0-1
Clonduff played the Warrenpoint side on Friday evening and won on a scoreline of 5-8 to 0-1 and this result put Clonduff top of the table. Team: Larry Lynch, Thomas Woods, Aidan Quinn, Daire Lavery, Aaron Norris, Aaron Gribben, Joey O'Hare (1-0), Jayme McDonald (1-1), Patrick Cowan, Oisin Tumilty, Paudie Clancy (3-4), Ben Magee (0-2) Darragh McAlinden (0-2). This was an excellent performance from all the players. Training continues Wednesday evening at 7pm.

Senior Camogie League – Clonduff 0-6 v Liatroim 0-5
