St Patricks Grammar School Downpatrick was the venue for Saturdays P4 & P6 county blitz. This new initiative will take place on a monthly basis, with the next Blitz set for Saturday 4th June. Many thanks to Down Development Officer’s Conor O’Toole and Karol Keating for organising and delivering this successful event. All teams within Down are encouraged to attend future blitzes.
Although the weather was not very appealing to those that had travelled to be there for 9:30am, it didn’t dampen the spirits of the young Gaels that had turned out to represent their clubs, in all there were seven clubs represented at both U8 & U10 level with some clubs providing 3 teams. Once the teams had all arrived and registered, it was down to business with six pitches set up it, which meant team’s got to play at least four to five matches. With the focus very much on participation and enjoyment of our sport every child from the beginner to the seasoned hurler enjoyed the days hurling and are eagerly looking forward to the next blitz.
Thanks must go to Clonduff, Cumann Pheadaír Naofa, Kilclief, Liatroim, Bredagh, Portaferry and Ballycran who made the day a great success. It is hoped that the next county blitz time will see an increase in the number of clubs attending and also with a bit of luck we could be blessed with a stranger to this county of late, sunshine!
